The 456 Gear Tooth Vernier Caliper is designed to measure in thousands of an inch the thickness of gear teeth at the pitch line or the chordal thickness of the teeth and the distance from the top of a tooth to the chord. For the same purpose it can also be used for measuring hobs, form and thread tools, etc. The thickness of a tooth at pitch line and the addendum of each of which are adjusted independently by adjusting screws on the graduated bars. In using this tool, proper allowance may be made for any variation or error in the size of the gear blank when seeing the vertical side to obtain correct distance from top of the tooth to pitch line.
