Here is a good old used Starrett No. 122 vintage vernier caliper in its original Mahogany wooden box.  This is a 12" model with a .001" resolution.  It has the older 25 division scale.  Jaw depth is 2-3/8".   This one may be a little firmer than some I have come across to slide to a quick size range.  When you lock the thumbscrew for the fine adjustment it is very easy to move.  I don't believe there is any wear in it, hence the firmness to slide.  No wear yet.   All the graduations are readable.  There are a few stain spots here and there from age.  The outside scale is on one side of the caliper and the inside scale on the other side.  1.000" round Starrett standard shown in photo NOT INCLUDED.
